So this wallet is a preproduction unit that was sent over to me by Ekster. So It didn’t come in the box, but yours will. So this is available in 5 colors and you can get this in Jet black, space grey, Midnight blue, Forest Green, and Desert Red.
There are also 2 exclusive colors that you can only get in the US. The exclusive colors are Fiery Red which is the one I have here and Marine Blue. So the Ekster Cardholder Pro is crafted from recycled aluminum and has a more ergonomic design.
So the first noticeable improvement is that the bottom edge is now curved, preventing it from stabbing into your palm when you hold it. Although I never had an issue with the wallet stabbing my palm, this is a welcome design change. Now taking a look at the trigger is now flush with the wallet, creating a seamless design.
And I actually like these new adjustments, it makes the wallet have a more cohesive and refined look. The second noticeable change is in the way the trigger sounds. When pressed, it now produces a much louder sound and in my opinion, it sounds a little better.
This is due to the upgrade from a plastic trigger to an all-metal one, making the entire wallet metal. Here is a quick glimpse of the internal, it’s a little hard to show, but you can kind of see the metal components inside. So this change makes the wallet much more durable and the ejection trigger is still as fast as ever, so you can still access your cards at an instant without the hassle of having to dig through your wallet.
The last major change is that the card opening is now wider, allowing it to hold up to seven cards. As a result, this pro model is slightly thicker than its predecessor, measuring approximately 8.68mm compared to the non-pro model’s 7.87mm of thickness. So with the metal trigger and slightly larger footprint, the pro wallet is 5 grams heavier.
Despite these changes, the wallet remains slim and lightweight, fitting comfortably in front pockets. However, placing it in your back pocket is still not recommended, as it would be quite uncomfortable when sitting down. Even though this has a larger opening, your cards will still stay securely inside unless you give it a very hard shake.
So depending on how many cards you have that are embossed, you might only be able to fit about 4-6 cards, but if all your cards are flat with no raised numbers, then it will fit up to 7. You can still comfortably fit about 2-4 cards in the backplate comfortably while still having some room to slide in some cash in the front. Or you can max it out with cards and fit up to 14 cards. Ekster also launched new add-on accessories and they sent them over to check them out.
They now have a cash clip backplate, designed to hold your cash. So the cash clip has a good amount of tension and It can fit 6-10 bills in here quite easily. This frees up the front of the wallet so you can use it to hold things like a business card or membership cards.
You can still slide in up to 6 cards in the back plate, but I tend to carry no more than 4 to keep a low profile. And this is what the wallet looks like with all of that on the wallet. If you want to keep your cash in the cash band instead, then you can use the clip to hook the wallet onto your pants pocket so that it doesn’t move around in your pocket and scratch up your phone screen.
Now this backplate does add more bulk to your wallet, so if you’re trying to keep a low profile, then you’re better off with the regular backplate. Ekster also released a coin tray that lets you carry a couple of coins with you. This can hold 6 quarters or various combinations like 2 quarters, 3 dimes, and 3 nickels.
You can also store a small key inside here. So the coin tray tray just slides in between the backplate and wallet. There is an arrow on the back of the cointray that shows you which way goes up, so it’s meant to look like this and you just push it up to get your coins out.
I personally prefer to have this backward and pull out the coin tray from this notch that’s on the backplate. Keep in mind that if you decide to get the coin tray, you will be giving up the space to put extra cards back there. Now one thing that would have made this coin tray better, is if this inside part was lined with some soft felt to help create friction and keep the coins from sliding around and creating a lot of rattling.
With 6 quarters in here, you will hear a lot of noise in your pockets when you are running and a bit of rattling when you are walking. So in my opinion, the felt would have helped a little in reducing that noise. Although the wallet and cointray are scratch resistant, there will be metal-on-metal contact and the back of the cardholder and coin tray may eventually get scratched up after a couple of years, so that is something to be aware of.
so these new add-ons are also compatible with the Reg regular car holder overall I appreciate these new design refinements with the car holder Pro the wallet is still stylish and practical though the color isn’t quite my taste. I’m not a big fan of red but it does look pretty cool since my favorite color is blue I would be rocking the marine blue one I have been using the car holder Pro with the cash clip for nearly 2 weeks now instead of carrying the coin tray I have been carrying the tracker car designed for Android phones and they also offer a finder car for Apple devices so these tracking cards connect to your phone and they help you at your wallet when you misplace it at home or when you forget it at a restaurant I personally find it much faster to slide cash into the cash B compared to the cash clip but if you’re trying to slide in about 10 bills it’s equally as slow now both of them are equally as fast when trying to get the cash out so where I find the cash clip very useful is when I’m using shorts because I can just clip it into the inside of my pocket the pockets on some of my shorts and sweatpants aren’t very deep and my items end up falling out of my pocket when I sit down and with this I don’t have to worry about my wallet falling out when I sit down so it’s great to see the exter’s giving you more ways to customize your wallet to meet your specific needs I hope that they eventually are able to integrate the tracking card as the back plate that would be pretty cool so if you’re looking to streamline your wallet and you don’t often carry a lot of cash with you then I highly recommend giving this wallet a try it also makes for a perfect gift for your parents sibling or significant others if you know that they don’t really carry cash with them plus it comes with a 100 day free trial and a lifetime warranty.
